MENTORING

Sistahs-in-the-Law

Most often when one thinks of mentoring, a mental impression of a younger person paired with a more senior person is conjured. For lawyers, mentoring is needed in more than just substantive legal subject matters. Seasoned lawyers also need mentors for a host of reasons. Sometimes a younger person’s insight may be just what a seasoned lawyer needs.  Our mentoring program has neither age, background, nor practice area restrictions.

SDCBWLA’s mentoring program is one that incorporates a multitude of areas because as Black women lawyers and judges, we have unique challenges both professionally and personally. Our program recognizes that we Black women require insight and a safe place to request guidance without a feeling of judgment or de-valuation. We also simply need good social connections. Mentoring objectives in substantive law, work environment coping skills especially when you are the only, opening a solo practice, interest in judgeship or transitioning to the bench, political candidacy, surviving and scaling your business, understanding of technology platforms, earning passive income or avocation interest, advice on navigating financial options as part of life’s personal-professional success, or mental navigation of surviving life’s crisis are some areas in which our Sistahs-In-The-Law Mentorships can occur.  Our programmatic events are geared to encourage a more meaningful and organic engagement between the mentor and mentee, in a quest to help nurture relationships. than solely in a regimented office setting.

Complete the form below and submit it to us at ADMIN@PBC-SDCBWLA.ORG so that you may be paired with the person(s) we believe can and will help.
